About Me

Welcome,

I am Jian Tang. I received my PhD in Information Science and Technology from the School of Information Studies, Syracuse University. My researcher interests are Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Social Commerce. My research areas cover effects of behavioral settings on human behavior in different contexts.

Research Interests

My prior and current research efforts aim to understand the effects of technology-enabled environment on users’ experience, satisfaction, self-disclosure, and so on.  Those studies fall in the category of human-computer interaction research by drawing knowledge from more established areas, such as e-commerce, information systems, game design, and computer-mediated communication.

My research interests include three main research themes.

  1.   User behaviors in Social Commerce/Social Media
  2.   Human-Computer Interaction
  3.   Motivations of user behaviors in various contexts

Research Projects

Evaluation and Response Mechanism toward Online Advertisements

I have been working Dr. Ping Zhang and Dr. Philip Fei Wu on this project. We intend to investigate consumers' evaluation and response mechanism toward online advertising.

Citizen Science: Socially Intelligent Computing to Support Citizen Science (SOCS)

I am part of this National Science Foundation funded project. I am collaborating with Dr. Nathan Prestopnik to explore how different gamification approaches influence participants' playing experiences when contributing to scientific activities.

Motivation and Privacy Concern of Mobile-based Social Networking Apps

I am working with Dr. Yang Wang to investigate motivation factors for mobile-based social networking apps usage. Particularly, we are interested in how novel social features change people's interpersonal communications.
